A drunk man was detained in Kyiv who stole a bus and caused a traffic accident: details of the incident
In Kyiv, police detained a 32-year-old man from Poltava region who, while intoxicated, illegally took possession of a bus and caused a traffic accident. The offender was reported to be under suspicion and faces up to eight years in prison.
This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv police.
According to the department, a Kyiv resident called the 102 hotline and reported that an unknown person got behind the wheel of a bus on a street in the Svyatoshynskyi district and caused a traffic accident.
An investigative and operational group of the district police department went to the scene. Law enforcement officers found out that the bus was illegally taken over by a drunk 32-year-old man who had recently arrived in Kyiv from the Poltava region.
It was established that the attacker noticed the parked “Bogdan” bus, pressed the front passenger door and entered the cabin. Inside, he found the ignition keys, started the engine and began driving.
While driving, the man lost control and collided with a Toyota and a Mercedes parked nearby, and then hit a tree.
Officers arrested the offender at the scene.
Investigators informed the defendant of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal seizure of a vehicle).
“During the investigation, the court chose a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention,” the police said.
By the way, a traffic accident occurred in Zolotonosha on Nezalezhnosti Street, as a result of which a 31-year-old driver of a Toyota car died , and two passengers were injured and hospitalized. The police have opened a criminal case on the fact of violation of traffic safety rules, which caused the death of a person.
