A factory producing shells for Ukraine caught fire in Slovakia: details of the incident

A fire broke out in Snina, Slovakia, at the ZVS Holding enterprise, which produces ammunition components, including 155-mm artillery shell casings supplied to Ukraine.

It is known that the fire occurred on September 16 at the company’s production site.
According to preliminary information, the fire started on the roof of the building during renovation work carried out by an outside company.
The company’s employees were evacuated. According to local authorities, no one was injured. The fire was contained in about two hours.
CSG holding company representative Andrey Chirtek reported that after the fire, work on the damaged area was temporarily suspended.
“The extent of the damage and the causes of the fire will still be assessed and clarified,” Chirtek said.
While the fire was being extinguished, local authorities urged residents to stay away from the enterprise and, if possible, to spend less time outdoors.
ZVS Holding is part of the MSM Group, which is part of the Czechoslovak Group. The company produces components and ammunition for artillery, tank, mortar and rocket systems.
The fire occurred just days after a fire at a warehouse of Bulgarian defense company EMCO on September 11. Its products are also supplied to Ukraine. Bulgarian law enforcement is considering several versions of the causes of the fire, including a possible arson.
It was previously reported that a fire broke out in Poland on the night of August 31 at the WB Electronics plant in Skarzysko-Kamenna, which produces drone components for the Polish and Ukrainian armies. Cameras on the factory’s territory recorded an unknown person in a balaclava, so law enforcement officers do not rule out the possibility of arson.
