A former adviser to Saakashvili has announced his intention to run for president of France.

MEP and leader of the center-left Place publique party Raphaël Glucksmann has announced that he will run in the 2027 French presidential election.

The politician announced his decision on August 23 on TF1. Before that, Glucksmann plans to participate in the primaries that the French Social Democrats will hold this fall to determine a joint candidate.

His candidacy has already received support from some on the French left. In particular, former Green presidential candidate Yannick Jadot has announced his support for Glucksmann.

Raphaël Glucksmann has emerged as a prominent figure on the moderate left following the 2024 European Parliament elections, where his list finished third.

The politician is also known to Ukrainian audiences for his work in Georgia. From 2009 to 2013, he served as an advisor to President Mikheil Saakashvili and supported the country’s European integration. Subsequently, Glucksmann repeatedly defended Saakashvili and called for his dismissal.

In the 2027 elections, he could become one of the leading candidates of the center-left camp. At the same time, Glucksmann will have to compete with other representatives of the left, particularly Jean-Luc Mélenchon, as well as candidates from the right and far-right political camps.
