A judge caused a fatal accident in the Carpathian region: one person died, another was injured.

In the village of Fraga in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, a judge of the Pidhaitsky District Court of the Ternopil region caused a fatal traffic accident by running over two pedestrians.

The State Bureau of Investigation and the Office of the Prosecutor General reported this.

According to investigators, the accident occurred on October 31 on the Mukachevo-Lviv highway. The judge, driving a Lexus UX 250h, was heading toward Lviv and failed to slow down while approaching an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing, resulting in her collision with two people.

“One of the victims died at the scene, the other received minor injuries,” the State Bureau of Investigation clarified.

State Bureau of Investigation officers arrived at the scene, seized the vehicle and other evidence, and interviewed witnesses. They also took blood samples from the judge for toxicology testing.

The woman was notified of suspicion of violating traffic safety rules, which resulted in the death of a pedestrian and injury to another person (Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

“The article carries a penalty of up to eight years’ imprisonment,” the Prosecutor General’s Office emphasized.

In addition, law enforcement officials submitted to the High Council of Justice a submission requesting consent for the judge’s detention and a petition for temporary removal from the judiciary.

According to the department, the High Council of Justice will review these documents today, November 2.

As a reminder, on October 30, a fatal accident occurred near the village of Zhyrivka in the Lviv region , resulting in the death of four soldiers.
