A judge was detained in the Odessa region while accepting a bribe.
On March 5, law enforcement officers detained a judge of the Reni District Court in the Odesa region on suspicion of receiving improper benefits. He was caught receiving 800 euros and 300 US dollars.
The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported this.
According to investigators, on January 29, the court received materials regarding the driver’s administrative liability, as well as a decision on the issue of tobacco products confiscated from him without excise tax stamps.
During a conversation with the applicant, the judge offered to pay the applicant to settle the matter regarding the return of the seized property. According to investigators, he hinted at the transfer of funds in foreign currency, specifically euros, noting that the applicant must “interest him” in avoiding confiscation.
The judge was detained immediately upon receiving 800 euros and 300 dollars.
That same day, he was notified of his suspicions. On March 6, the prosecution filed a motion with the High Council of Justice requesting permission to detain the judge. A motion was also filed with the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine requesting pretrial detention as a preventive measure.
The pre-trial investigation continues.
