A key power substation was damaged in Russia.

An attack occurred on the 500 kV Balashovskaya substation in the Volgograd region of Russia. It is a key facility in the Russian Southern Power System.

This was reported by the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Andrey Kovalenko.

The substation provides power supply to the Volgograd Military District, facilities of the Russian Ministry of Defense, and important transport energy hubs in the Saratov-Voronezh direction.

Previously, Russian troops lost a similar substation, Veshkayma, which was also of strategic importance to the country’s energy infrastructure.

Failures at these facilities could have a significant impact on the operation of military and civilian infrastructure in the region, as well as on the stability of the power supply in the southern part of the Russian Federation.
