€90B for Ukraine? Decision on Massive Loan Looms

The European Union may soon approve a 90 billion-euro loan to Ukraine.

The issue of amending the EU’s long-term budget for 2021-2027 was discussed at a meeting of the EU’s Committee of Permanent Representatives (Coreper), which will take place on April 22.
This is an amendment to the multiannual financial framework that will allow the unblocking of funding for Ukraine.
The Cypriot presidency noted that this issue was included on the agenda as one that does not require additional discussion.
Following agreement among EU ambassadors, a written procedure will be initiated for the final approval of the budget amendments.
It is expected that a final decision may be made within 24 hours after that.
As previously reported, the European Union and Hungary are continuing negotiations to unblock funding for Ukraine, amounting to 90 billion euros. The Hungarian side links its decision to the resumption of Russian oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline.
As a reminder, on Thursday, March 19, a summit of EU leaders was held in Brussels, where one of the key issues was financial support for Ukraine, in particular, the possible unlocking of a 90 billion euro aid package.
