A political scandal has erupted in the United States surrounding Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and Vice President J.D. Vance. The reason was an advertising campaign against Democratic candidate Amy Acton, which was criticized by representatives of both parties.
This was reported by public figure Ivan Yakovyna.
Ramaswamy is running for governor of Ohio against Democrat Amy Acton, a physician and head of the state’s health department. The Republican initially had the advantage due to his visibility and the support of influential politicians, but as the campaign progressed, his rival’s popularity grew.
Two weeks before the election, Ramaswamy’s team released a commercial featuring Acton’s mother, Donna Arthur. In the video, she accused her daughter of lying and said that she was incapable of taking care of herself and others.
After the video was released, information about the difficult relationship between Acton and her mother emerged in the public domain. According to Yakovyna, in the late 1970s, Donna’s husband Arthur sexually abused Amy Acton, who was 12 at the time, and her younger brother. After an investigation, the man was charged, and the mother was deprived of parental rights. According to the author of the post, the man did not appear in court, as he went into hiding until his death.
The ad drew criticism from Republican Party officials, with some of Ramaswamy’s party members calling for him to remove the ad, particularly because of the candidate’s mother’s participation.
US Vice President J.D. Vance, a longtime friend of Ramaswamy, supported his position. According to Yakovina, Vance did not see a problem with the commercial , but instead criticized Republicans who opposed it.
The author of the post believes that supporting Ramaswamy could harm Vance’s political prospects and his possible plans to run for US president in 2028.
Yakovina also emphasized Vance’s negative attitude towards Ukraine . He mentioned the vice president’s criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, his statements on Europe, and his support for political forces that the author of the post considers pro-Russian.
At the end of the post, Yakovyna expressed hope that the scandal surrounding the Ohio election campaign would weaken the positions of Vance and other American politicians who oppose Ukraine.
By the way, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth could face impeachment after the midterm elections if the Democratic Party gains a majority in Congress. Among the complaints against the official are his war on Iran and operations against alleged drug traffickers in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific.
