A magnetic storm is covering the Earth: when to expect a peak in activity

A G1-level magnetic storm could affect Earth on August 12. Geomagnetic activity will increase due to the solar wind flow associated with a coronal mass ejection that occurred on the Sun on August 8.

This was reported by the British Geological Survey.

The geomagnetic situation is forecast to remain unstable from August 12 to 15. The main impact is expected today, when isolated periods of a weak G1-level magnetic storm are possible.

Geomagnetic activity is expected to remain elevated on August 13 , but will gradually begin to weaken. The situation should stabilize on August 14, although isolated disturbances are still possible.

Activity may increase slightly again on August 15 due to a high-speed solar wind stream. Towards the end of the week, additional impact may be caused by a coronal hole in the Sun’s northern hemisphere.

At the same time, the forecast of geomagnetic activity may change after new data on the solar wind and its interaction with the Earth’s magnetic field becomes available.

Regarding the impact of magnetic storms on well-being, there is not enough scientific evidence that they directly harm the health of people on the Earth’s surface. The planet’s atmosphere and magnetic field largely protect us from solar radiation.

During periods of geomagnetic activity, experts advise not to overexert yourself, adhere to a normal sleep schedule, drink enough water, and maintain your usual regimen of taking medications prescribed by your doctor. If your well-being worsens, you should seek medical help.
