In early October, an increase in geomagnetic activity is expected on Earth due to a coronal mass ejection that occurred on the Sun on September 28. The most noticeable changes are predicted for October 2 — separate periods of a weak G1-level magnetic storm are possible.

According to the British Geological Survey, the plasma cloud is expected to reach Earth between October 1 and 2.

On October 1, the geomagnetic situation will be elevated, but no magnetic storm is expected. The next day, activity may increase to the level of a weak G1 storm.

On October 3, the impact of the ejecta should gradually decrease, although increased geomagnetic activity may still persist.

In addition, a C9-class solar flare was recorded on September 30, which was also accompanied by a coronal mass ejection. According to preliminary estimates, this plasma cloud will likely pass in front of Earth’s orbit and will not have a significant impact on our planet.

Magnetic storms are caused by the interaction of the solar wind and plasma emissions with the Earth’s magnetosphere. Strong geomagnetic activity can affect the operation of satellites, GPS, radio communications, and power systems.

At the same time, a weak G1 storm does not pose a particular threat to most people and does not require special protection.
