US Vice President J.D. Vance said he had several conversations with Vladimir Putin and called him “very measured” and “cautious.”

He said this during an interview with Fox News.

Vance said he had never met Putin in person, but had spoken to him “several times.”

“The American media has a certain image of him. He’s very measured. He’s very cautious. He speaks somewhat softly. And I think that basically he’s a person who looks after Russia’s interests, as he sees them,” the US vice president said.

He also added that Putin respects President Trump because he “knows that the president cares about the interests of the American people.”

Vance also described how Trump, after meeting with President Zelensky and European leaders, unexpectedly decided to call Putin.

“So we’re in the East Wing of the White House, and the president says, ‘You know, we had a pretty good meeting. I’m going to call Vladimir Putin, see what he has to say about this.’ And everyone says, ‘Oh, you’re going to call him next week?’ And he says, ‘No, what time is it in Moscow? Let’s call him right now,’” Vance said.

As a reminder, multilateral talks were held in Washington with the participation of US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and leaders of key European countries. The central topic of the discussions was the prospect of ending the war in Ukraine and launching a new peace process initiated by Washington.
