A G2-level magnetic storm is expected on Earth on Saturday, October 18. It was caused by several coronal mass ejections that have occurred on the Sun over the past few days.
This was reported by the British Geological Survey.
Experts note that some of the solar emissions could merge during their movement towards Earth, which will lead to an increase in the overall flow. According to forecasts, geomagnetic activity will remain elevated also on Sunday, October 19.
A few days ago, four coronal mass ejections were detected on the Sun, all aimed at our planet. According to space weather physicist Tamita Skov, they are the ones that are forming the current powerful magnetic front.
A G2 storm is considered moderate, but it can affect satellites, communications systems, and power grids. There are also possible magnetic field fluctuations that could affect the well-being of weather-dependent people.
To reduce the negative impact of magnetic storms on the body, doctors advise taking care of the stability of the nervous and cardiovascular systems, getting more rest and avoiding stress. It is also recommended to drink enough water, spend more time outdoors, monitor blood pressure and not overexert yourself physically.
Experts emphasize that moderate magnetic fluctuations are a common occurrence during periods of increased solar activity, so there is no reason to panic.
