A national font, Zakon, has been created in Ukraine: what makes it special?

The national font Zakon, created based on Ukrainian artistic tradition, was presented for the first time in Kyiv. It will gradually be used for the design of state documents.
This was reported by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.
The new font was developed based on the creative heritage of six Ukrainian artists: Heorhiy Narbut, Vasyl Krychevsky, Yakov Hnizdovsky, Robert Lisovsky, Vasyl Khomenko, and Vasyl Chebanyk.

Zakon has characteristic features of Ukrainian lettering: asymmetrical serifs, diamond-shaped dots above the letters “i” and “ї”, as well as a special design of the letter “ї”.

The font family consists of three typefaces:
- Zakon Text – for official documents, office work, and everyday work with texts.
- Zakon Decor – for diplomas, awards and ceremonial inscriptions.
- Zakon Letterpress – for printing originals of regulatory legal acts of the Verkhovna Rada.
The goal of the initiative is to gradually replace fonts of Russian origin in government institutions, in particular Izhitsa and Petersburg, which are still used for document design.

The transition to Zakon will take place gradually, without a mass replacement of existing forms and signs. You can familiarize yourself with the font and download it on the website of the Ministry of Culture .
As a reminder, on October 26, the Ukrainian Language Week started in Ukraine , which will last until November 1. Over a thousand cultural and educational events are planned within its framework.
