A new answer to drones: microwave weapons will appear in Ukraine

Ukraine has begun testing several prototypes of domestic microwave weapons, which could become a new tool in the fight against drones.

This was announced by CEO of the Brave1 cluster Andriy Hrytsenyuk on the air of the “Military” program.

According to him, these are systems that use powerful electromagnetic radiation in the microwave range to damage equipment and drones, disabling their electronics.

Hrytsenyuk noted that this direction is difficult for Ukraine, because previously there was practically no powerful expert school in microwave technologies in the country. At the same time, individual samples are already undergoing testing.

“Microwave weapons are not easy, because Ukraine did not have a strong expertise base, but we are already testing some solutions,” he said, without disclosing the details of the tests and their results.

The publication emphasizes that high-power microwave emitters could become a fundamentally new type of weapon to counter drones. Such systems are capable of simultaneously hitting multiple targets, have a low cost per shot, and potentially unlimited ammunition.

The principle of their operation is to direct electromagnetic waves that disrupt the operation of the electronic components of drones and actually burn them out from the inside.

Experts also note that the rapid development of these technologies in the world, increasing power and reducing dimensions make such systems more accessible and allow them to be integrated into various platforms.

As reported, Russian troops have begun using a new unmanned aerial vehicle, the Geran-5, at the front , which has structural similarities to Iranian developments.
