Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is working on creating a new maritime defense line in the Black Sea. It will involve the use of interceptor drones to protect Odessa, the southern regions and the airspace above them.
He wrote about this in Telegram .
During a meeting with graduates and cadets of the Naval Forces Institute, Zelenskyy said that the new defense system will involve the use of interceptor drones, which will be launched from various platforms, including naval drones.
“The know-how we need is to have a line of defense at sea and use interceptor drones there from various platforms so that we have a line that protects Odessa, Greater Odessa, the entire region in the air,” the president said.
According to the head of state, modern warfare requires the constant introduction of new technological solutions. He noted that mass production of interceptor drones is already underway, and the next stage will be their integration into a unified maritime defense system.
The President emphasized that one of the main achievements of the Ukrainian Naval Forces is the accumulated combat experience, which allows creating solutions that have no analogues in other countries.
Zelensky also noted that Ukrainian naval drones have already demonstrated their effectiveness during the war. According to him, their use forced Russia to withdraw a significant part of its fleet from the Ukrainian coast, which made it possible to ensure the operation of the maritime food corridor. In addition, Ukrainian naval drones have already proven their ability to hit not only ships, but also air targets, including Russian helicopters.
The Head of State added that in the future, the Ukrainian Navy should transform into a high-tech system that will combine traditional warships, aviation, surface and underwater drones. According to him, the next stage of development will be the widespread use of artificial intelligence and remote control of equipment from the shore.
Recall that the Danish company BlueShadow has developed the Blue Dragon system, which involves using a swarm of autonomous unmanned boats to intercept Russian attack drones over the sea . The company plans to deploy the first squadron off the coast of Ukraine in the spring of 2027 after receiving certification from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
