A new stage in the fight against cancer: innovative drugs will be produced in Ukraine

In Rome, during the annual Ukraine Recovery Conference, the State Enterprise “Medical Procurement of Ukraine” (MPU) and the international pharmaceutical company Roche signed an investment agreement for the production of innovative anti-cancer drugs.

This is stated on the website of the Ministry of Education.

The signed agreement provides for the creation of capacities at the MZU for the production of drugs against lung and breast cancer.

As it became known, “in bulk” medicines from the Swiss company F. Hoffmann-La Roche, that is, unpackaged drugs that have passed the main stages of production, will be supplied to Ukraine, where they will be packaged, packaged, and labeled.

To implement appropriate actions in Ukraine, it is necessary to build capacity, obtain licenses for GMP production, and conduct training for personnel.

It is planned that patients will be able to receive the first medicines in 2027, when the project is implemented.

“This is the first strategic partnership in Ukraine between an innovative international pharmaceutical company and a state-owned enterprise in the field of localization of vital medicines. We are proud that it was “Medzakupivli Ukrainy” that became a pioneer in implementing a modern format of public-private partnership in the pharmaceutical sector,” noted Deputy Head of the Ministry of Health Edem Adamanov.

It is noted that under the agreement, the Swiss company will supply atezolizumab (trade name “Tecentriq”) for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer, as well as pertuzumab in combination with trastuzumab (trade name “Fesgo”) to combat HER2-positive breast cancer.

“Innovative medicines provide a chance for recovery, continuation of active life and preservation of families. This is not only about medicine – it is about preserving the human potential on which the country rests. Ensuring access to modern treatment is our direct duty and contribution to the restoration of Ukraine,” emphasized Oleh Klots, Director General of the Ministry of Health.

Previously, the State Enterprise “Medical Procurement of Ukraine” signed a contract for the purchase of a 9-valent vaccine against the human papillomavirus (HPV).
