Russian economists have started talking about the possible shutdown of some metallurgical enterprises due to the crisis.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.

“In Russia, there has been talk of a possible shutdown of a number of metallurgical enterprises. Such forecasts are being made against the backdrop of a significant reduction in metallurgical production due to extremely low domestic demand, the loss of many foreign markets, sanctions, and unfavorable conditions in the remaining foreign markets,” the report says.

According to statistics, the production of metallurgical products in Russia has been declining since 2024. This threatens production stops, plant closures, and mass layoffs.

Problems with the metallurgy industry are further exacerbated by crises in other Russian industries, primarily construction. This negatively affects domestic demand.

The CPR noted that the detrimental effects of the war against Ukraine and sanctions continue to grow in Russia and are becoming increasingly tangible for ordinary Russians, despite propaganda efforts to create an optimistic picture on television.

Earlier it became known that the largest Russian shipping company Sovcomflot suffered a net loss of $393 million in the first quarter of 2025 .

In addition, the largest agricultural machinery manufacturer in the Russian Federation, Rostsilmash, may completely stop production due to a decrease in financial support from the state.
