A People’s Artist of Ukraine died from an electric shock in a swimming pool.

People’s Artist of Ukraine, pop singer, and composer Mykola Yanchenko died tragically at the age of 67. According to preliminary reports, the cause of death was an electric shock in a swimming pool on the grounds of his private home.

This was reported by Vinnytsia journalist Tatyana Redko and singer Natalia Fallion.

“Kolya, People’s Godfather, how could this be??? This is a tragic death by electric shock in the pool at my family’s estate in Strizhavka,” Redko wrote.

Nikolai Yanchenko was born in 1959 in the village of Kanava, Tyvrovsky district, Vinnytsia region. He trained as a drama director and worked as the director of a community center in the village of Moyevka.

Over the years of his creative career, the artist has created and performed numerous songs dedicated to the Ukrainian family, village, and folk traditions. Among his most famous compositions are “Only in Ukraine,” “Oh, What’s Wrong, Mama,” “Pour It Up, Kuma!” and “My Family.”

In 2007, Mykola Yanchenko was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine, and in 2016 he received the title of People’s Artist of Ukraine.

According to Yuriy Melnik, a specialist with the regional Department of Defense and Law Enforcement, the funeral and burial of Mykola Yanchenko will take place in Vinnytsia on July 3.
