A polar vortex is coming to Ukraine: which regions will it cover?

The latest forecast models indicate a large-scale disruption of the polar vortex triggered by stratospheric warming in mid-January, leading to the inevitable release of Arctic air masses into Europe and North America. These weather conditions are expected to persist at least until early February.
This is stated in the material of the publication Severe Weather Europe.
The polar vortex is usually a “keeper” of cold, keeping it in the polar regions when it’s strong. But when it’s disrupted or broken up, cold air can escape, creating true winter weather in the mid-latitudes.
Analysts have tracked how this stratospheric anomaly will redefine January weather patterns, potentially setting off a burst of cold air that could last until early February.

The pressure forecast for the second half of January shows that the core of the Polar Vortex is forecast over eastern Canada. This allows northerly and northwesterly flow from western Canada into the north, central and eastern United States. The low pressure anomaly is also extending into Europe.
The temperature forecast for this period in Europe shows that colder air is covering much of the continent under the northerly flow and lower pressure. This is expected to occur after stratospheric warming and the disruption of the polar vortex, as this will lead to the release of cold air from the Arctic Circle into the mid-latitudes.

“Of course, we must remember that this is a long-term forecast. But what gives us good confidence is not some random forecast, but a pattern that emerges after the stratospheric warming event,” the publication emphasizes.
According to the ventusky resource, these weather anomalies will also affect Ukraine. It will be especially frosty on January 15-17.
Meanwhile, the State Emergency Service reported that a sharp cold snap is expected on January 10-11 – in a number of regions the temperature will drop to -23 degrees Celsius. Snow, blizzards, and ice are forecast before the sharp cold snap.
