The Security Service of Ukraine detained a cleric of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate who was directing fire at Odesa in March 2024.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU.
According to the GUR, the recruit was a priest from one of the churches of the local diocese of the UOC (MP), who carried out the double blow to Odessa.
According to the investigation, it was from his coordinates that the Russian Federation launched two Iskander-M missiles at the recreational area of the regional center.
The first missile hit a residential area and other civilian infrastructure, where, according to the adjuster, the military was located.
The second blow fell on the same place, but when emergency services had already arrived on the scene.
After the attack, the Russian agent wrote to his handler from Russia and went into hiding to avoid exposure.
But the SBU exposed the recruited agent and detained him at his place of residence.
The priest came to the attention of Russian special services when he posted pro-Kremlin comments on the Telegram channel.
After recruitment, he, without taking off his cassock, walked around the city and marked the necessary targets on Google maps.
He transmitted the collected information via a chatbot administered by the traitor, Sergey Lebedev (alias “Shaggy”), who is hiding in Donetsk and works for Russian military intelligence.
The investigation established that the cleric passed on to the Russian Federation information about the location of air defense systems protecting the Odessa region.
He also informed the enemy of the coordinates of one of the power substations near Odessa, in particular about its protection system. And after the strike on the energy facility, he informed about the consequences.
During the search, the investigation seized a smartphone with marked coordinates and correspondence with its handlers from the Russian GRU.
In particular, the detainee is charged with Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).
The perpetrator is being held without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Previously, “Pryamiy” reported that the SBU detained a Russian agent who coordinated one of the largest air attacks by the Russian Federation on Kyiv on the night of May 24.
An FSB agent was also detained , who was planning to blow up a power substation in Kropyvnytskyi.
