A prominent Ukrainian blogger has been charged with tax evasion.

The Bureau of Economic Security and the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office have reported suspicions against Ukrainian blogger Sofia Stuzhuk for tax evasion totaling nearly 11.5 million hryvnias.

The Bureau of Economic Security and the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office reported this.

According to investigators, she received significant income from social media advertising over five years but failed to report it in her tax returns. As a result, the budget lost approximately 10.5 million hryvnias in income tax and almost 900,000 hryvnias in military tax.

Since Stuzhuk has been living abroad since the outbreak of full-scale war, she was charged in absentia under Part 3 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The prosecutor’s office also recalled that the blogger, with a multi-million audience, refrained from commenting in the first days of the invasion and subsequently made contradictory statements. Specifically, in 2022, she wrote that massive Russian strikes on Ukraine were allegedly “a consequence of Ukrainians’ joy at the attacks on Russia and the Crimean Bridge,” and also promoted Russian bloggers, targeting a Russian audience.
