A Russian agent who blew up a military man’s car was detained in Kyiv

The Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police have detained a Russian agent who blew up a Ukrainian military vehicle in the Obolonskyi district of Kyiv.

This was reported by the press center of the SBU.

The arrest took place “hot on the trail” – within a few hours after the terrorist attack, which occurred on January 4. According to the investigation, the woman planted explosives under the car of a serviceman who was on leave and had arrived in the capital from the front line.

As a result of the explosion, the soldier and his friend received injuries of varying severity, including shrapnel wounds to both legs and a concussion.

The investigation has established that a 24-year-old local resident who did not have a permanent job was involved in the terrorist attack. Russian special services recruited her through Telegram channels, where she was looking for so-called “easy money.”

Following instructions from Russian supervisors, the woman independently made a homemade explosive device. She received the funds to purchase the components on her own bank card, and the Russian side transferred part of the money to her father’s details for conspiracy.

After preparing the explosives, the attacker planted them under a military vehicle. To record the attack, she placed a hidden phone camera with a power bank and remote access for Russian special services nearby.

The explosion occurred when the soldier approached the car and opened the trunk.

Law enforcement officers detained the agent in one of the shopping and entertainment centers in Kyiv, where she was hiding after the crime. During the searches, they seized a SIM card from a “video trap” and a mobile phone, through which she communicated with the curator.

SBU investigators are preparing a report of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – a terrorist act. The perpetrator faces up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.

The operational measures were carried out by SBU officers in Kyiv and Kyiv region together with the National Police under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.

As previously reported, a car explosion occurred in the courtyard of a house on Heroiv Dnipra Street in Kyiv as the trunk was opened. As a result of the incident, a serviceman received shrapnel wounds, while a woman nearby was not injured.

As a reminder, counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine detained a mobilized serviceman from Dnipro who was correcting air strikes by Russian troops on the Dnipropetrovsk region.
