Deadly Russian Strike Shuts Down Zaporizhstal, Killing Seven Workers

A Russian attack caused significant damage to the Zaporizhstal steel plant in Zaporizhzhia, forcing it to completely halt operations. Seven workers were killed in the strike.

According to the company, Russian ballistic missiles struck the plant as workers were heading for shelter after an air raid alert was sounded. Another 21 plant workers were injured.

Metinvest stated that it is providing all necessary assistance to the victims and maintaining contact with the families of the dead and injured.

The attack damaged Metinvest’s energy units and infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia. Primary and auxiliary facilities at the coke and blast furnace plants were also damaged.

Zaporizhstal’s operations have now been completely halted, while the company’s other production sites have been reduced to reduced capacity.

Specialists are assessing the extent of the damage, carrying out emergency recovery operations, and determining possible timeframes for resuming operations.

As a reminder, Russian occupation forces launched strikes on Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia overnight. The capital was attacked with ballistic missiles, while Zaporizhzhia was hit with rockets and aerial bombs. At least five people were killed, and 20 more were injured in the attack on Zaporizhzhia. One casualty was reported in Kyiv.
