The SBU counterintelligence, together with the National Police, exposed a scheme in Vinnytsia for illegal legalization of foreigners in Ukraine. Law enforcement officers detained the head of a regional branch of a state-owned enterprise and five of his accomplices.
This was reported to the SBU.
According to the investigation, among those detained are the director of a state institution, the head of one of the departments and his subordinate, the head of a local charitable organization, and two businessmen.
The suspects issued temporary residence permits in Ukraine to foreigners in exchange for bribes. To do this, they used a scheme involving fictitious employment.
The main clients were people from Central Asia and the Middle East, including countries with a high terrorist risk. According to operational data, among them could be members of the Russian spy network, whom the Russian special services involve in intelligence and subversive activities in the interests of Moscow.
Law enforcement officers documented how, after receiving bribes, officials entered false information about foreigners into state registers, after which they received residence permits.
During more than 30 simultaneous searches of the defendants’ residences and workplaces, computers, mobile phones, draft records with evidence of criminal activity, as well as forged documents prepared for sale, were seized.
The detainees were informed of suspicion under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, in particular for illegal smuggling of persons across the state border, obtaining undue advantage by an official, and abuse of influence.
The issue of imposing preventive measures on them is currently being decided. The defendants face up to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property for their actions.
It was previously reported that in the Lviv region, the SBU detained an FSB agent who worked at the production of unmanned systems for the Defense Forces. The man tried to give the Russian special services the coordinates of an object so that the enemy could launch a missile strike on it.
