A series of explosions rocked Russian regions: drones attacked the Moscow region and Dzerzhinsk

Explosions were heard in several regions of Russia on the night of Friday, July 18. The sounds of the explosions were heard in the Moscow region, Oryol and Nizhny Novgorod regions.

It is reported that in the Istrinsky district of the Moscow region and near Zvenigorod, eyewitnesses heard the buzzing of drones and powerful explosions. Although there is currently no information about casualties or damage, local air defense allegedly repelled the drone attack.

In Moscow, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said air defense forces shot down two drones flying toward the capital. Emergency services are currently working at the site of the debris.

The incidents at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport led to the implementation of the Carpet plan, which resulted in delays to eight domestic and international flights and the cancellation of one flight. 20 flights were also delayed upon arrival.

In addition, in the Oryol region, local residents reported several explosions in the suburbs of Oryol, and near the village of Znamenka, bright flashes were noticed in the sky. According to preliminary data, the Russian air defense was operating in this area, but there is no official confirmation.

In Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod region, explosions were also heard in the area of an industrial zone this morning. As a result, air traffic was temporarily restricted at Nizhny Novgorod airport. The city is an important transport hub with a railway station on the Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod line and a river port. In addition, Dzerzhinsk is home to Russia’s largest explosives production plant.

Meanwhile, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, during the night hours, Russian air defense forces allegedly shot down 73 drones that were attacking Russian territory. The largest number of drones – 31 – were destroyed over the Bryansk region, 17 – in the Oryol region, and 10 – in the Moscow region, including three that were flying towards Moscow.

Several more UAVs were allegedly shot down over occupied Crimea, the Sea of Azov, Smolensk, Nizhny Novgorod, Belgorod, Kaluga, and Voronezh regions, as well as over the Black Sea.

Recall that on the night of Thursday, July 17, a series of explosions were heard in Russia – several regions were hit by drone strikes. The Voronezh, Tula, and Moscow regions were hit the hardest.

As reported, on the night of Friday, July 11, a series of explosions rocked Russian regions near key enterprises of the defense-industrial complex . The attacks were recorded in Tula, the Moscow region, in particular Dubna and Lukhovitsy, and the Tver region.
