A series without a happy ending: did Zelenskyy’s election promises come true?

Seven years have passed since the second round of the presidential election, in which Volodymyr Zelensky won. During this time, Ukraine has become hostage to a media scenario that does not foresee a positive outcome.
Political analyst Volodymyr Horkovenko recalled on the air of “Pryamoy” about the emotional debate with Petro Poroshenko at the Olimpiyskyi Stadium in 2019, where the candidate assured citizens of a quick end to hostilities and radical changes in state administration.
According to the studio guest, the then slogans about “new faces” and promises of severe punishments for lawbreakers formed high expectations of society. A special emphasis during the campaign was placed on the intention to stay in power for only one term and to focus on the development of medicine and infrastructure.
However, an analysis of the political situation in Ukraine seven years after the elections demonstrates the lack of a professional approach to public administration and indicates a significant gap between the announced plans and reality. Therefore, Horkovenko emphasizes that the real results of the authorities’ activities should be assessed by specific facts on the front and the humanitarian situation in the country.
“A difficult question. Because in order to compare what was and what we have, two arguments are enough. The first is to look at the Deepstate map of the occupied territory. And the second is to look at the Deepstate maps if you are too lazy to look at them, in any city you can go either to the center, where there are portraits of the dead, or to the cemetery, where there are flags,” he noted.
The political analyst expressed his belief that the country has become a hostage to a media scenario that does not provide for a positive ending. He compared the choice of the state leadership to a specialist’s challenge, where professional skills should be more important than personal attractiveness or oratory. According to Horkovenko, the illusion of effective governance only deepens the crisis.
Meanwhile, the problem of abuses in the defense sector and public procurement is raising more and more questions in society. The guest on the air sharply criticized the attempts of officials to cover up corrupt actions with martial law, avoiding any criticism.
“This “untimely” lull has lulled society’s vigilance, but has untied the hands of the bastards. It seems that they are stealing, and when they say: “Why are you stealing?”, the answer is: “This is an enemy, an agent of Putin.” Well, you can’t do that, you understand? We must punish,” emphasizes Horkovenko and adds that a system of circular bail has formed in the state, where representatives of powerful “dynasties” protect each other from justice.
As “Pryamiy” reported, recently, MPs from the “European Solidarity” faction analyzed Volodymyr Zelensky’s election program after seven years of presidency. According to them, the current head of state has not fulfilled his campaign promises, and instead his entourage is participating in large-scale corruption schemes during the war.
Let us remind you that corruption ranks first among the problems that concern the residents of Ukraine, ahead of military risks and negative processes in power. This is evidenced by the results of the survey “Socio-political moods of Ukrainians (March 2026)”, conducted by New Image Marketing Group together with “Business Capital”.
According to the results of the same study, a trio of leaders has emerged in terms of voters’ sympathies – sociologists note that this trend was formed several months ago, but now we can say that it has already taken hold. In addition, the difference in support for the political forces that took second and third place is within the limits of statistical error.
