Hundreds of tourists climbing to the summit were stranded near the eastern slope of Everest in Tibet due to sudden bad weather.

This was reported by Reuters.

Heavy snowfall covered the valley, which is located at an altitude of about 4,200 meters, on Friday and continued until the end of Saturday.

Nearly 1,000 people were trapped in the snow. Hundreds of local residents and rescue teams were involved in clearing the snow.

According to the publication, 350 tourists managed to reach the small town of Qiudan, and contact was established with another 200 people. Those who have not yet reached the settlement will be gradually lowered with the help of rescuers sent by local authorities.

“It was so wet and cold in the mountains, and hypothermia was a real risk. The weather this year is unusual. The guide said he had never encountered such weather in October. And it happened so suddenly,” said a member of the group that reached Qiudan.
