In the Russian port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region, two explosions thundered on the tanker Eco Wizard, which was carrying ammonia. After the explosions, the vessel began to sink, and a large-scale ammonia leak was recorded at the site.

This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Transport and monitoring resources.

The incident occurred during loading of ammonia at the terminal. The tanker rolled onto its left side, and the damage caused a leak of the hazardous substance.

The port’s emergency services are working to eliminate the consequences of the incident, the loading of ammonia has been stopped, and diving operations are planned.

It is known that the tanker Eco Wizard sails under the flag of the Marshall Islands and is probably part of the so-called “shadow fleet” of the Russian Federation, which is used to circumvent sanctions. The vessel arrived at the port of Ust-Luga from Belgium.

Let us recall that the oil tanker Vilamoura exploded off the coast of Libya , which, according to the Main Intelligence Directorate, belongs to Russia’s “shadow fleet”.

An accident involving two tankers, one of which, the Adalynn, belongs to the Russian shadow fleet, has reportedly occurred in strategic waters near the Strait of Hormuz .
