A shooting involving the US Secret Service occurred near the White House in Washington, D.C. on May 4 near the Washington Monument, when law enforcement officers opened fire on a gunman.

According to US media, Secret Service officers spotted a suspicious man with a gun while patrolling the outer perimeter of the White House. When law enforcement officers approached, he began to run away and later opened fire in their direction.
In response, the agents opened fire and wounded the attacker. A minor bystander was also injured during the incident, he was wounded by the attacker’s gunfire, but his life is not in danger.
The man was shot in the torso and is in stable condition at the hospital, according to Secret Service officials. He has been tentatively identified as a 45-year-old man who previously lived in Maryland and Texas.
Law enforcement officers are also investigating whether he might have tried to break into the White House.
No Secret Service personnel were injured. An investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is ongoing.
It is also reported that US Vice President J.D. Vance’s motorcade was passing nearby at the time of the incident. Due to the situation, its route was quickly changed for safety reasons.
US President Donald Trump was at the White House at the time, speaking at an event in the East Room, when the first reports of the shooting emerged.
