The International Atomic Energy Agency has agreed on a new local ceasefire in the area of the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to restore backup power supply.
This is stated in the IAEA post on the social network X.
The IAEA noted that the agreed silence regime allows power engineers to restore the backup 330 kV power line. It is this line that provides additional stability to the plant’s operation in conditions of constant risks.
The agency’s director general, Rafael Grossi, said that sappers are continuing to clear the area to ensure safe access for repair crews to the energy infrastructure.
The IAEA emphasized that stable power supply remains a key condition for the nuclear safety of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
As previously reported, an emergency meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was convened in Vienna due to threats to Ukraine’s nuclear security due to attacks on energy infrastructure.
Recall that Sergey “Flash” Beskrestnov stated that nuclear power plants are currently the only stable sources of electricity generation in Ukraine. That is why, if Russia seeks to completely cut off the country’s electricity supply, it may focus on attacks on facilities related to nuclear power plants.
