A soldier who promised to “solve” a soldier’s rotation for $9,000 has been detained in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

Law enforcement officers have exposed a serviceman from a unit in the Dnipropetrovsk region suspected of accepting a bribe in exchange for a promise to facilitate the rotation of a soldier from the combat zone.

The State Bureau of Investigation reported this.

According to the investigation, the soldier’s family had not contacted him for over six months and were trying to find out his fate. Through acquaintances, they contacted an official at a regional military unit. The official assured them the soldier was fine, but took advantage of the family’s emotional state to offer to “negotiate” his inclusion in the rotation list.

The suspect demanded $9,000 for his “services” and insisted on the funds being transferred as quickly as possible. He was arrested on January 1 in Dnipro while accepting the bribe.

The serviceman was notified of suspicion of abuse of influence under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court ordered his pretrial detention with the possibility of posting bail. If found guilty, he faces up to five years in prison.

Investigators are checking for possible involvement in the crime of other individuals, including among the military unit’s command.
