In Sumy, an employee of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine died while extinguishing a fire caused by a Russian drone strike.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported this.
While rescuers were working at the fire site, a structure collapsed. Oleksiy Stolyarenko, 30, the shift supervisor of the State Emergency Service’s rapid response department in Sumy Oblast, was trapped under a concrete slab.
The rescuer suffered serious injuries. Medics attempted to save his life, but were unsuccessful.
The State Emergency Service expressed condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased.
“Today we lost more than just a rescuer. We lost a brother, a friend, a colleague. A man who faced danger every day to help others. His wife and young daughter were waiting for him at home. To them, he wasn’t a shift supervisor or a hero in uniform. He was a man, a father—the person they loved most,” the service noted.
