A symbol of stagnation: a factory in Russia didn’t last even half a year – production was stopped
Less than six months after its launch, the Bryansk automobile plant, which was supposed to produce analogues of Chinese vans, has stopped production. Only 110 cars were assembled on the assembly line – fewer than planned to be produced each month.
According to the Center for Countering Disinformation, even with discounts, these vans are not finding buyers in Russia. The reasons are stagnation of small businesses, high credit rates, driver outflow, and lack of demand in the market.
A segment that was recently considered stable is now in a deep lull. While the Russian authorities are trying to convince that sanctions are not harmful, actual losses in the industry say the opposite.
It should be noted that up to 20% of car dealerships in Russia may cease operations by the end of the year.
Recall that Russia’s largest automaker AvtoVAZ stopped production from July 29 to August 11 inclusive . The official reason is “corporate vacation”, but in reality the decision is related to a critical situation in the market: the company’s warehouses are overflowing with unsold cars.
As reported, Russia’s largest truck manufacturer KamAZ announced that it will switch to a four-day work week from August 1 for units that are not fully loaded.
In addition, the profit of Russia’s largest truck manufacturer, KamAZ, decreased 28 times last year.
It is worth noting that in June 2025, passenger car production in Russia decreased by 28.2% compared to the same period last year, to 45 thousand units.
