A tanker belonging to Russia’s “shadow fleet” was attacked in the Black Sea.

The tanker ALTURA, which, according to the Turkish side, belongs to the so-called “shadow fleet” of Russia and was transporting oil, was attacked in the Black Sea .

NTV reported this, citing the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.

According to preliminary information, the vessel was struck by an underwater drone. The attack damaged the tanker’s deck, bridge, and engine room, which began to flood.

There were 27 crew members on board – they were not injured.

The ship was heading to Istanbul under the Sierra Leone flag and was carrying about 140 thousand tons of oil from Novorossiysk .

According to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the tanker regularly transports Russian oil to India and Georgia. It has been subject to sanctions by Ukraine and Switzerland since 2025, and by the UK since 2026.

As a reminder, the oil tanker Sea Owl, which likely belongs to Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” was detained near the Swedish port of Trelleborg in the Baltic Sea on March 12. The vessel is subject to European Union sanctions and is carrying oil or other liquid fuels.

As previously reported, UK Defence Secretary John Healey met with his counterparts from the Baltic and Nordic countries to discuss the possibility of seizing tankers linked to the Russian shadow fleet. Such actions are aimed at limiting revenues funding the war against Ukraine .
