The Greek-flagged oil tanker Skiros was attacked in the Black Sea. Shortly before the incident, the vessel had loaded Russian oil at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal near Novorossiysk.

This is reported by Bloomberg, citing informed sources.

According to them, the Suezmax tanker was attacked on Sunday near the terminal after loading oil. The CPC mainly loads Kazakh oil, but this time the ship was carrying cargo of Russian origin.

The Athens-based company, which according to Equasis is the manager of the Skiros, confirmed that no one was injured in the incident and that there was no marine pollution. It also noted that the ship’s owners had been informed of the situation. The company declined to comment further.

Bloomberg notes that this is the first attack on a ship entering the CPC terminal after a nearly three-week hiatus.

Last month, a series of drone strikes disrupted oil shipments through the CPC, a route that recently accounted for nearly 2% of global oil supplies, and the consortium’s shutdown forced Kazakh oil companies to cut production.

Following the attacks on tankers late last month, the CPC even considered temporarily halting operations due to safety and environmental risks. However, the consortium decided to continue operations.

In early August, a US government representative reported that Ukraine had agreed not to strike non-Russian oil tankers and Black Sea infrastructure facilities important for the export of Kazakh oil.

Under the US-brokered agreement, Ukraine was to refrain from attacking CPC facilities and non-Russian vessels heading to its terminal. However, this only applied to vessels not under Ukrainian sanctions and not carrying Russian cargo.

In the case of the Skiros, according to Bloomberg, the ship was actually transporting Russian oil.

It was previously reported that Russian forces attacked a Guinea-Bissau-flagged merchant ship carrying Ukrainian wheat in the Black Sea . The attack killed one person and injured three others.
