Military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine, with the assistance of the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, detained a Russian accomplice in the Mykolaiv region who was passing data on air defense positions to the enemy.
This was reported to the SBU.
The Russian agent turned out to be a 21-year-old soldier serving in one of the Ukrainian air defense units. The Russians noticed him while he was writing comments on pro-Kremlin forums.
As it turned out, the man was passing on information to the enemy about air defense systems near operational airfields of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As part of the investigation, it was possible to document how, during an air raid alert, while on duty, the suspect recorded monitors with secret software.
In addition, he transmitted to the Russians data on the flight directions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the combat positions of air defense units.
In this way, the occupiers wanted to attack Ukrainian airfields, bypassing radar stations and mobile fire groups.
“However, SBU officers acted proactively and detained the informant immediately after the first communication session with the occupiers. At the same time, comprehensive measures were taken to secure the positions of the Ukrainian troops,” the report says.
During the searches, a mobile phone was seized from the suspect, which contained evidence of cooperation with Russia.
The military officer was charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
Previously, the Security Service of Ukraine prevented a series of terrorist attacks that Russian military intelligence planned to carry out in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Uman, and Odessa.
As a reminder, the Security Service of Ukraine detained an FSB agent who was preparing a missile strike on the Kropyvnytskyi thermal power plant . The suspect turned out to be a 16-year-old resident of Kropyvnytskyi.
