A Ukrainian prisoner was convicted in Russia: what was he accused of?

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced 38-year-old Yaroslav Chernyak from Poltava region to 13 years in prison for participating in the Aidar battalion.

This was reported by Russian media with reference to the court’s press service.

Chernyak was found guilty of terrorist organization activities. He will serve the first three years in prison, the rest in a maximum-security colony.

According to the investigation, in July 2024, Chernyak joined Aidar and served as a rifleman-medic in the Donetsk region. In November, he was taken prisoner, which became known only in March of the following year. The serviceman’s data was added to the Rosfinmonitoring list in April.

Russia designated Aidar a terrorist organization in September 2023, and the battalion was added to the list in December. Since then, captured members of the unit have been tried on charges of “terrorism.”

In the same court at the end of June, 38-year-old Andriy Rybak from Zhytomyr region received an identical sentence – 13 years in prison for belonging to Aidar.

As a reminder, Russia sentenced three Ukrainian servicemen in the case of “committing terrorist acts” in the Kursk region.

As reported, in temporarily occupied Energodar , the Russians sentenced an employee of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, Vadym Trachuk, to 25 years in prison.

In addition, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don convicted a family from Melitopol on charges of partisan activity . One of the defendants received a life sentence.
