A young mother and her baby were rescued from the occupation. When the woman refused to obtain a Russian passport, the so-called child protection services attempted to take her newborn son away.
The head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, spoke about this.
According to him, as part of the Ukrainian President’s Bring Kids Back UA initiative, a young mother and her baby were rescued from the occupied territories.
In particular, after the occupation of her hometown in 2022, the life of a 23-year-old woman became a matter of survival. When she refused to obtain a Russian passport, so-called child protection services attempted to take away her newborn son, citing the mother’s inability to provide for the child.
Yermak said the woman lived in constant fear for a year, hiding from the occupation authorities to avoid losing her child.
“The only thing the girl dreamed of was to join her sister in Dnipro. Today, the mother and baby are already in Ukrainian-government-controlled territory. They are receiving assistance in restoring their documents, psychological support, and guidance to start a new life in safety,” he noted, thanking the team of the Ukrainian Network for Children’s Rights for their help in saving the young family.
Let us recall that Ukraine managed to return a group of children who were under occupation in the Kherson region to the territory it controls.
Ukraine previously managed to return 29 more children from the temporarily occupied territories who had experienced oppression, coercion, and the imposition of Russian propaganda.
As a reminder, three children, as well as a young man illegally taken to Russia, were returned to Ukraine from the temporarily occupied territories .
