Acted on instructions from FSB supervisors: contract killing of Ukrainian intelligence officer foiled in Kyiv
In Kyiv, employees of the Security Service of Ukraine prevented the contract killing of an officer of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. During a special operation, the FSB killer was detained right at the moment of preparation for the shot.

The SBU counterintelligence conducted a multi-stage special operation, during which an FSB agent involved in preparing the contract killing of a Ukrainian serviceman was exposed in the central part of Kyiv.
The attacker was detained “red-handed” in one of the capital’s establishments when he took out a pistol and pointed it at an officer of the State Security Service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the attack was carried out by a 28-year-old citizen of a Central Asian country. The recruitment took place in his home country while he was looking for work through Telegram channels.
After receiving instructions from Russian handlers, the man arrived in Ukraine disguised as a tourist and initially stopped in Pervomaysk, Mykolaiv Oblast. There, he purchased several mobile phones and SIM cards, which he regularly changed for clandestine communication with the FSB.
The agent later traveled to Kyiv, where he received from the curator a photo of the potential target, approximate geolocations, and coordinates of the weapons cache. He took a pistol and ammunition from the cache.
For completing the task, the defendant was promised 50 thousand US dollars and assistance in legalization in one of the European Union countries.
During the arrest, a firearm with ammunition and a mobile phone with evidence of contacts with FSB representatives were seized from the man.
SBU investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, in particular for completed attempted murder, aiding an aggressor state, and illegal handling of weapons. The suspect is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Subsequently, the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police detained three men who carried out a double terrorist attack in the Darnytsia district of Kyiv on December 11. The detentions took place “hot on the trail” within 6 hours of the explosions.
