This was reported by the Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of Military Personnel, Olga Reshetylova.
New Law Guarantees Two Weeks of Mandatory Leave for Ukrainian Military and Expands Benefits for Combatants
The newly adopted law introduces updated vacation rules for Ukrainian military personnel, including a mandatory two-week leave and expanded options for combatants. It also outlines the use of additional leave and lays the groundwork for future compensation for unused vacation days.
Key provisions of the law include:
-
Basic annual leave for service members remains at 30 days, of which 15 days are now mandatory. This leave can only be waived at the service member’s personal request.
-
10 days of leave remain available for family-related reasons.
-
Up to 14 additional days may be granted to combatants, subject to agreement with their commander.
At the same time, the Parliamentary Committee on National Security has initiated a working group to draft proposals for increasing leave entitlements for troops performing combat duties on the front lines.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also instructed lawmakers to introduce legislation providing for annual compensation for unused vacation days. However, this measure will require further amendments to existing laws.
According to MP Pavlo Palisa and the Deputy Head of the President’s Office, the new policy is intended to allow military personnel to recover their strength and maintain psychological well-being during extended periods of service.
On the eve, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law that not only guarantees funding for the Defense Forces and payments to military personnel, but also introduces an additional 15 days of vacation for defenders. The innovation will come into effect in August and should become an important support for military personnel serving in wartime conditions.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a new law that provides military personnel with the right to monetary compensation for unused vacation days upon dismissal from service.
We remind you that Ukrainian servicemen who defend or have defended the state have the legal right to significant benefits when paying for housing and communal services. This is an important step by the state in supporting its Defenders and their family members during a difficult time for the country.
