Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky announced the introduction of additional battalions of unmanned systems into the staff of individual assault regiments. The decision is aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s technological advantage in the war against Russia.

He wrote about this in Telegram .

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that the modern war for Ukraine’s independence has become a technology competition, in which unmanned systems play a leading role.

“The current war for Ukraine’s independence has become a competition of technologies, and in this competition the leading role belongs to unmanned systems. The winner will be the one who gains and implements a technological advantage on the battlefield,” said Syrsky.

According to him, in January, unmanned units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces reduced the number of Russian army personnel by almost 29.7 thousand servicemen, while the enemy recruited 22 thousand people during this period.

“This is the difference we are striving for: to destroy more soldiers than Russia manages to field,” Syrsky noted.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that during the monthly meeting on the development of unmanned systems, they discussed the performance of combat missions, the implementation of new technologies, and the experience of using drones.

According to him, during January, unmanned aerial vehicle units hit 66.2 thousand targets, and ground robotic systems performed almost a quarter more missions compared to December. At the same time, the Ukrainian military retains its advantage in the use of FPV drones.

Syrsky also reported that Russia continues to develop its own unmanned forces. According to Ukrainian intelligence, in 2026 the enemy plans to increase the number of unmanned systems troops by 79 thousand people and bring their total number to 165 thousand people. In addition, Russia has adopted interceptor drones and is testing the Geran-4 and Geran-5 jet drones.

“All this stimulates us to more quickly seek our own revolutionary technological and management solutions to counter Russian UAVs and overcome the enemy’s echeloned air defense,” Syrsky said.

According to him, in addition to strengthening the assault troops, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to develop the unmanned component in the brigades of the Territorial Defense Forces.

During the meeting, representatives of combat units and military command bodies also spoke about their experience in using drones, modern management approaches, and technical solutions that can be scaled up in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Their unique experience of combat operations and the use of technologies must be accumulated and disseminated to all Armed Forces,” Syrsky emphasized.

Earlier, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, reported that the Ukrainian army is adapting to the realities of modern warfare by actively implementing the latest technologies and decentralizing combat management.

The day before, Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that in 2026, Ukraine plans to conduct offensive operations alongside strategic defense. The goal of such actions is to maintain the operational initiative and force the enemy to expend resources.
