After his release, Syrsky addressed the Ukrainians and summed up the results of the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

After his resignation as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky addressed Ukrainians. In his post, he summarized his work as the head of the army, recalled key combat operations, spoke about changes in the Armed Forces, and thanked the Ukrainian military for their service.

Syrsky recalled that he led the Armed Forces of Ukraine in February 2024 during one of the most difficult periods of the war. According to him, one of the first decisions was the organized withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Avdiivka, which was aimed primarily at saving the lives of personnel.

The former commander-in-chief also recalled the defense of Kyiv and Kharkiv in 2022, the liberation of Balakliya, Izyum, and Kupyansk, the destruction of the Wagner PMC in the Donetsk region, as well as the Kursk operation.

“Our goal was never to occupy foreign land. Our goal was to thwart the enemy’s prepared offensive on Sumy and Kharkiv, to withdraw its most combat-ready troops, and to replenish the exchange fund in order to return our people from captivity. All of this was accomplished,” Syrsky emphasized.

He noted that during his command in Ukraine, a separate branch of the armed forces was created – the Unmanned Systems Forces, an air defense system was developed using interceptor drones, the army was transferred to a corps structure, and approaches to staffing headquarters were changed.

According to Syrsky, the Ukrainian military also continued offensive operations on certain sections of the front, conducted the Dobropil operation and the operation in the Oleksandrivka direction, and also systematically struck at enemy military targets.

“This year, under my command, 700 square kilometers of our land have been liberated. The army, which two years ago waged a heavy defense, is advancing today,” he emphasized.

At the end of his address, Syrsky thanked all Ukrainian military personnel and the families of the fallen defenders and assured that he would continue to serve Ukraine.

“My job is war. Positions change, but this principle does not. Whatever my status, I will serve Ukraine until Victory,” he said.

As reported the day before, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Mykhailo Drapaty will become the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine . At the same time, Oleksandr Syrskyy will complete his work in the position and hand over his affairs to the new leadership.
