A pilot fifth-generation (5G) mobile network has begun operating in Kyiv. After successful testing of the technology in Lviv, Borodyanka, and Kharkiv, it has also been tested in the capital.

This was reported by the Ministry of Digital Transformation.

Currently, the 5G network is operating in the central part of Kyiv, from Maidan Nezalezhnosti to Bessarabskaya Square. At the same time, mobile operators have already deployed several more coverage points, and the next city where they plan to launch a pilot project will be Odesa.

The Ministry of Digital Affairs notes that the technology opens up access to much faster mobile Internet. According to the results of previous tests, the data transfer speed exceeded 1 Gbit/s, and the average was 600–700 Mbit/s.

To use the new network, users need to make sure their smartphone supports 5G, install the latest version of the operating system, disable power saving and data saving modes, and if necessary, restart the network or reboot the device.

According to Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation Stanislav Prybytek, the technology has already been tested by almost 1.5 million Ukrainians. After the tests are completed and martial law restrictions are lifted, 5G is planned to be gradually scaled up across Ukraine.

It was previously reported that Ukraine’s first 5G pilot network was launched in the center of Lviv .

Later, testing of the technology was expanded to Borodyanka and Kharkiv, and in Kharkiv, the new communication standard was also tested during marriage registration through the “Diya” application .
