After the end of the war with Russia, Ukraine has every right to form its own security system, including new international agreements with Western countries and beyond.
This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an interview with Fox News.
According to him, every independent state has the sovereign right to enter into defense alliances with other countries — this is not limited to NATO. Such formats exist in the United States, for example, with South Korea and Japan. And Ukraine is no exception.
“Even Russia — under pressure or at the initiative of President Trump — for the first time recognized that Ukraine will have the right to conclude security agreements with other states after the conflict ends,” Rubio noted.
He added that Washington is currently coordinating with European and other partners to create a reliable architecture of security guarantees, which should be consolidated after a possible peace agreement.
“This is important for Ukraine to feel protected in the future,” the Secretary of State emphasized.
Rubio also emphasized that the most reliable guarantee of security remains a strong Ukrainian army.
In addition, he reported that the format of support for Kyiv is changing: the United States is no longer supplying weapons for free. Instead, through coordination with NATO, Ukraine receives assistance in the form of procurement with the participation of European partners.
As a reminder, advisors to US President Donald Trump have stated that his short-term goal is to organize talks where the leaders of Ukraine, the US, and Russia will meet face to face.
As reported, US President Donald Trump is determined to quickly conclude a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, which could mean increased pressure on Kyiv and demands for concessions on the issue of territories.
