After a five-month conflict with Iran, the United States has faced a significant reduction in its stockpiles of high-tech munitions. The US military estimates that about 80% of its THAAD interceptor missiles have been used, almost half of its Patriot and Tomahawk missiles, and virtually its entire arsenal of individual long-range missiles.

This was reported by CNN, citing several informed sources and internal Pentagon documents.

According to the channel, the scale of ammunition spending has caused concern among the US military leadership. Senior officials are warning that stocks of certain types of weapons have reached “dangerously low” levels.

According to estimates by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), before the war with Iran, the United States had approximately 2,200 modern Patriot missiles and 452 THAAD missiles. A significant portion of these stocks were used during the hostilities.

In addition, the US Army has almost completely exhausted its arsenals of ATACMS tactical missiles and the latest Precision Strike Missile (PrSM). Almost half of its Tomahawk cruise missiles have also been lost.

According to CNN sources, the lack of ammunition was one of the main reasons why the White House postponed a new military operation against Iran. Although US President Donald Trump had already approved the strike plan, after assessing the real state of the arsenals, the decision was revised.

Analysts warn that the depletion of the stockpile could affect the US’s readiness to respond to potential conflicts with China, Russia or North Korea. CSIS estimates that it will take at least three years to replenish the THAAD missile stockpile, while replenishing the Patriot arsenal will also take several years due to limited production capacity.

The Pentagon has already signed new contracts to expand production of engines for Patriot and THAAD missiles. However, the Defense Department did not specify when this will allow for a significant increase in production volumes.

At the same time, the Pentagon assured that the US army maintains a sufficient stock of weapons to carry out all assigned tasks. A similar position was expressed by the White House, emphasizing that the US has the necessary resources to implement strategic goals.

It was previously reported that Ukraine has not yet received a license to produce interceptor missiles for Patriot systems. The US stated that negotiations are ongoing, but they will not have time to complete them and conclude a corresponding agreement before the beginning of winter.
