The UK has become the next key target in Russia’s hybrid war after Ukraine. Military analyst Richard Kemp said the Kremlin is seeking to sow division in British society, destabilise the state from within and take revenge for its strong support for Kyiv. Moscow is operating through sabotage, cyberattacks, disinformation and even political assassinations.
This is reported by The Telegraph.
According to the expert, the United Kingdom is one of the countries that most actively supports Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression. And this is what, according to British columnist and former commander of the British army Richard Kemp, makes it Vladimir Putin’s next main target after Ukraine.
“Russia has goals around the world, but the UK is a priority. Its support for Ukraine and tough sanctions policy are angering the Kremlin,” Kemp writes in his column.
According to the columnist, Russia is waging a so-called political war against Britain – a campaign that includes all means short of open war. These include:
- cyberattacks on infrastructure facilities,
- sabotage (such as fires in warehouses or arson of logistics centers),
- information attacks,
- contract killings and assassinations, which, according to British intelligence services, are carried out by the Russian intelligence agency GRU.
“Since Putin came to power in Britain, there have already been at least six assassinations or attempts, probably at the hands of Russian agents,” Kemp recalled.
The Kremlin, according to the author, is trying to destroy the international coalition to assist Ukraine, create internal conflicts in Britain, and undermine military, economic, and political support for Kyiv.
In this context, attention has increased to mysterious incidents in Britain:
- arson at the DHL hub in Birmingham,
- a fire at a strategic warehouse in London – British intelligence links these cases to Russian agents.
“The Kremlin should have no illusions. We see what they are doing in the shadows, and we will not tolerate it. That is why we are introducing tough sanctions against Russian spies,” said British Foreign Secretary David Lemmy.
He also added that London is not only strengthening cyber defense and counterintelligence, but is also actively countering Russian attacks both openly and “behind the scenes.”
“Britain must not just defend itself. It must launch its own offensive campaign in response – diplomatic, political and informational. Otherwise, it will be left on the hook by Moscow,” Kemp concluded.
By the way, France does not rule out the possibility of a major armed conflict in Europe in the next decade . This scenario is outlined in the new strategic doctrine of security and defense, published under the title “National Strategic Review – 2025”.
Recall that the largest port in Europe , Rotterdam, is preparing for a possible NATO war with Russia, reserving places for ships with military cargo in the event of a conflict.
As reported, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Russia could attack the alliance within the next 5 years.
In addition, Germany stated that the state must be prepared for aggression from Russia within the next four years.
