AI-based “Dynamic Shield”: the US has introduced an innovative system for protecting against drones and missiles

The US has unveiled a new defense system, Halo_Shield, designed to counter drones and cruise missiles at low altitudes. The system uses artificial intelligence and a modular architecture to detect, track, and neutralize aerial targets.

The Halo_Shield concept was developed by the American company AeroVironment. The material notes that the system is designed as a “modular, distributed and cost-effective system for combating unmanned aerial vehicles.”
The developers claim that the system allows military and security units to obtain a complete picture of the airspace in real time and respond quickly to threats.
Halo_Shield uses a multi-layered architecture that is capable of:
- anticipate threats;
- identify targets;
- track objects;
- identify air assets;
- neutralize targets.
The system is based on the concept of individual modules, called “tiles.” They combine sensors, actuators, and controls and can operate either individually or in a shared network to protect critical assets.
The material notes that among the integrated technologies used are:
- Locust laser system;
- Switchblade unmanned munitions;
- Titan 4 radio frequency systems;
- Titan MS radio frequency systems.
The company emphasizes that the system is built on the principle of plug-and-play, is modular and scalable. It can be quickly deployed in the form of portable kits without the need for complex redesign or additional training of personnel.
“This is a transition from static defense to a ‘dynamic shield’ that is adapted to the mission,” the company said.
It is also reported that Halo_Shield modules are divided into 4 categories: Celestial, Sentinel, Terrestrial, Nautical.
Each category corresponds to a separate area of application of the system. The developers promised to release additional details on the technical characteristics later.
We will remind that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced his intention to expand the production of air defense systems in Ukraine . This involves the creation of a full range of air defense systems that should ensure the long-term protection of the state.
By the way, the US began to postpone the supply of weapons to its European allies . This even affected weapons under already signed and paid contracts. The reason was that its own stocks were rapidly decreasing against the backdrop of several conflicts at the same time.
