Aid is not a priority: Europe spent more on goods from Russia than on supporting Ukraine

During the full-scale invasion, the European Union spent 124 billion euros more on Russian goods and energy resources than on aid to Ukraine.

This was reported by European Truth, citing Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard.

She emphasized that assistance to Ukraine from European countries is not sufficient, while Russia’s support is too great.

According to her, since February 2022, Europe has allocated 187 billion euros to support Ukraine. At the same time, during the same period, the EU imported Russian oil and gas worth 201 billion euros.

“If we add other imported goods, the total amount is 311 billion euros. This means that we receive negative support for Ukraine in the amount of 124 billion euros. This is nothing short of a shame,” the official emphasized.

In addition, the Swedish Foreign Minister commented on efforts to resolve the war. In her opinion, for any peace talks to take place, it is necessary to increase support for Ukraine and pressure on Russia.

“A very good start would be to use frozen assets for the benefit of Ukraine,” she added.

It was previously reported that three European countries — France, Spain, and Belgium — spent more money on liquefied natural gas from Russia than on financial assistance to Ukraine.

As a reminder, the European Union seeks to abandon the purchase of Russian liquefied natural gas earlier than planned within the framework of the 19th package of sanctions against Russia.
