Air alert has a price: how much the Ukrainian economy loses per hour

Every hour of airstrikes, during which businesses are forced to stop work, costs the Ukrainian economy about $45 million. Russian attacks are increasingly hitting not only infrastructure, but also business operations.

Thiswas reported by The Guardian, citing the Minister of Economy and Ecology, Oleksandr Kravchenko.

According to him, prolonged airstrikes force enterprises to suspend work, which creates significant losses for the economy.

“What we didn’t fully anticipate was how quickly Russia would develop these jet drones and start using them to strike everywhere,” Kravchenko noted.

He called the Russian attacks an attempt to effectively paralyze the Ukrainian economy.

At the same time, during so-called “yellow” alerts, more than half of enterprises continue to operate. This approach allows to partially reduce economic losses from prolonged air threats.

According to the minister, in 2026 alone, Russian attacks caused about $10 billion in damage to fixed assets .

Among the targets of Russian strikes were metallurgical plants, warehouses, logistics infrastructure, and data centers.

Kravchenko emphasized that Moscow is trying to strike at key sectors of the economy in order to complicate the work of enterprises and increase the financial burden on the state.
