Air defense intercepts seven Russian ballistic missiles for the first time in a long time: General Staff reveals details of attack

On the night of Thursday, August 27, Russia launched a large-scale combined attack on Ukraine, using missiles and 258 strike drones. The main blow fell on the Odessa, Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava and Zaporizhia regions.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the military, the enemy attacked Ukraine from 6:00 p.m. on August 26 with two Onyx anti-ship missiles, Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, as well as Shahed, Gerbera, S8000 Banderol drones, and Parody simulator drones.
The defense forces used fighter aircraft, anti-aircraft missile systems, electronic warfare equipment, unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups.
As of 09:00, according to preliminary data from the General Staff, it was possible to destroy or suppress:
1 Onyx missile;
7 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles;
3 S8000 “Banderol” drones;
222 attack UAVs Shahed, “Gerbera” and other types.
In total, the air defense neutralized 233 enemy air targets.
At the same time, it was not possible to completely repel the attack. The military recorded hits from Russian air attack vehicles at 15 locations. In another 11 locations, they found downed targets or their fragments falling.
The General Staff noted that some of the enemy’s weapons did not reach their targets. Information about the consequences of the attack is still being clarified.
At the time of publication, the attack was still ongoing: Russian strike drones remained in Ukrainian airspace.
Separately, the General Staff drew attention to the composition of the strike group. About a third of the 258 Shahed launched were jet-powered, meaning they had a much higher speed than traditional versions of these drones.
Russia carried out the attack from the territory of the Kursk, Bryansk, Oryol, and Rostov regions of the Russian Federation, as well as from the occupied territories of the Donetsk region and Crimea.
As reported, on the night of Thursday, August 27, Russian occupation forces attacked several regions of Ukraine at once with missiles and strike drones . Explosions were heard in Kyiv, Zaporizhia, Kryvyi Rih, Kharkiv and Odessa. As a result of the attack, there were casualties and damage to residential buildings, an industrial enterprise, an educational institution and other civilian infrastructure.
